Char Dham Yatra, 2 Dham Yatra, Single Dham Yatra, and Opening/Closing Dates of Triyuginarayan, Chopta, and Auli
The Char Dham Yatra is one of India’s most sacred pilgrimages, covering four major shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Situated in Uttarakhand, the yatra usually begins in May and concludes around November, depending on the Hindu calendar and snowfall. The journey symbolizes salvation and spiritual cleansing for millions every year.
For those seeking a shorter spiritual experience, the 2 Dham Yatra—visiting Kedarnath and Badrinath—is a popular option. Both sites are highly revered; Kedarnath honors Lord Shiva, while Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This route suits those with limited time or looking for a lighter travel itinerary.
Some pilgrims also prefer a Single Dham Yatra, focusing on just one dham like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, or Yamunotri. This allows a deeper connection with the place without the pressure of covering all four dhams in one trip.
Triyuginarayan Temple, believed to be the site of Lord Shiva and Parvati’s celestial wedding, is accessible almost year-round, but the best time to visit is between April and November.
Chopta, known as the “Mini Switzerland of India,” is the starting point for the Tungnath trek. It is usually open from March to June and September to November. Heavy snowfall in winter can close routes temporarily.
Auli, famous for skiing, welcomes tourists mainly between November and March for snow activities, and from April to June for sightseeing. Monsoon season (July-August) is less ideal due to landslides.
In 2025, the Char Dham Yatra is expected to open in early May and close by mid-November, aligning with Diwali.
